The Benefits of Living in an HOA

Whether you love HOA’s or not, there is no denying their benefits! Wouldn’t it be ideal if there was an entity in place to insure that your property values were being looked after? Great news! That is the purpose of an HOA. An HOA will hire a management company, such as Diversified Association Management, to insure that all residents are following the covenants set forth for your community. If you live in a townhome or condominium, your dues pay for the exterior maintenance to not only your home, but to all of the common areas in your community. If you live in a single family home HOA, your dues pay to maintain the common areas as well. When a home, townhome or condominium is not maintained, it has a negative effect on the neighboring homes.

The benefits of living in an HOA are countless. Your property value is the highest priority. Maintenance of the common areas is provided by a contractor, but the cost is shared by all homeowners. Some HOA’s have amenities that include a clubhouse, fitness center, courts, pools, BBQ pits, and much more. Of course, the HOA dues would be higher when living in a community with amenities. The HOA will also act as a mediator if difficult situations arise between neighbors. Most importantly, HOA’s help build a sense of Community. The goal is to create a friendly and healthy living environment.

Covenanted communities exist for one primary reason: to preserve the value of our homes and appearance and attractiveness of our community. The golden rule to remember: Don’t do or fail to do anything to your home that would diminish its value or that of neighboring homes.

I like that you mentioned that an HOA can act as a mediator between neighbors if issues arise. My wife and I are actually moving because of problems with neighbors. I think that if we live in a place that has an HOA that we would be able to work through any problems with neighbors in the future.

Thanks for pointing out that living in a townhome can allow us to have professional maintenance regularly. My husband and I are planning to have our own place where we can grow our family so this is helpful. We are hoping to find a two-bedroom townhome on Monday so we can have peace of mind that the property will be maintained.
